Join us in the heart of Italy’s Veneto region for an immersive experience in composition, conducting, and performance.
VAMS Composition Program
The VAMS Composition Program offers emerging and established composers the opportunity to create new works for world-class ensembles in the inspiring cultural setting of the Veneto region. Participants collaborate closely with professional performers and faculty, refining their craft through rehearsal, mentorship, and performance.
VAMS Resident Ensembles:
Composers may write for one of the following ensembles or artists:
* Quartetto Nôus
* The Marco Polo Orchestra (conducted by Tyler Austin and Scott Terrell)
Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2 – 2.2.2 – 2 perc – strings (6.6.5.4.3)
* Igor Cognolato, piano
* Fonema Consort (Nina Dante – voice, Dalia Chin – flutes)
* Strains New Music Ensemble (Dalia Chin, flutes, Kyle Hutchins, saxophones, Sheldon Johnson, saxophones, Jeff Siegfried, saxophones, Rebeccah Parker Downs, cello, Shannon Wettstein, pianom Annie Stevens, percussion)
Each new piece will receive professional rehearsals and performances during the Summit, allowing composers to collaborate directly with distinguished musicians in exceptional venues across Veneto.
Program Highlights
Individual Lessons and Lectures — Study with internationally acclaimed composer Dinah Bianchi and guest faculty in sessions exploring composition, orchestration, and professional practice.
Rehearsals and Collaboration — Participate in the rehearsal process, receiving detailed feedback from performers and mentors.
Cultural Immersion — Explore Bassano del Grappa, Asolo, Possagno, and Venice, including a guided visit to the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova, one of Italy’s most extraordinary artistic landmarks.
Final Performances — Participant works are featured in concerts across Veneto, culminating in a final presentation in Venice.
The VAMS Composition Program unites creative exploration, mentorship, and cultural discovery. Participants leave with new works premiered by exceptional ensembles, expanded networks, and an enduring connection to Italy’s artistic legacy.
